Investing in infrastructure builds more competitive, better integrated economies, leading to growth and job creation. It can also improve environmental performance, climate resilience and economic inclusion. Traditional approaches to structuring infrastructure investment using sovereign financing are no longer sufficient. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are playing an increasingly important role, with the private sector bringing much-needed financing, know-how and the latest technologies.
This panel will explore innovative approaches and business opportunities to attract more private-sector financing and deliver urban and transport infrastructure projects in the EBRD regions. It will discuss PPPs and other methods of encouraging private investment in infrastructure, with a focus on business opportunities and what is needed to prepare and deliver bankable projects in emerging markets. It will examine ways to produce high-quality infrastructure underpinned by robust standards of project preparation and implementation. The panel will also cover the importance of addressing climate risks and the benefits of new smart technologies.
